The longest canal in North America came through Delphi
The Wabash & Erie Canal ran over 460 miles — the longest canal ever built on this continent — and every foot of it was dug by hand with picks, shovels, and wheelbarrows in the 1830s and 40s. Delphi preserves a rewatered stretch and an interpretive center downtown. We move more dirt before lunch than a canal crew moved in a week, and we still tip our hats to them.
Three waterways box the county in
The Wabash River crosses the county's north, the Tippecanoe River touches its western edge, and Wildcat Creek drains the south. That much moving water shapes everything about drainage here — and it makes Carroll County genuinely good pond country, with soils and water tables that cooperate.
